Living Off The Grid When The Lights Go Out

There are few circumstances more annoying than having the power go out–especially during the 2 minute warning of a superbowl game.  I know.  This actually happened to me once.  Fortunately, I had a back up generator, and set a land speed record turning it on so I could finish the game. That was many years ago.  From the events of that fateful day, I decided to avoid any potential interruptions in the power supply system by setting up my own off-the-grid solar power system.  I’ve never regretted that decision.  In fact, it was probably my best investment ever.  It has paid me many dividends in peace of mind and tranquility ever since–not to mention not having an electric bill. Blackouts and rolling brown-outs are becoming common place.  Our nations antiquated power grid is needing more and more repairs all the time.  Plus, the monthly electrical fees are becoming quite exorbitant and there’s no end in sight.

President Obama, prior to his election, told the San Francisco Chronicle back in 2008, “electricity rates will skyrocket under his cap and trade plan.”  That’s cheery news!  Furthermore, FOX News published an article in January 2009 titled, “Powerful Solar Storm Could Shut Down the U.S. For Months.”  This article states, “A new study from the National Academy of Sciences outlines grim possibilities on earth for a worst case scenario solar storm.  Damage to power grids and other communication systems could be catastrophic, with effects leading to a potential loss of government control of the situation.” Read the rest of this entry »

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park

With more than 250 species and over 1700 animals, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park is dedicated to animals and nature conservation of the world we live in. Offering entertainment along with a chance to get up close and personal with animals, this park is divided into seven main areas: Africa, Asia, Camp Minnie-Mickey, Dinoland, U.S.A., Discovery Island, Oasis and Rafiki’s Planet Watch.

  • Africa – This area features the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail that allows you to take a walk on the wild side through tropical and exotic areas to discover gorillas, meerkats, okapi, hippos and lots of other species including exotic birds. Another adventure is the Kilimanjaro Safaris where you ride in an open vehicle that shows you lions, giraffes, warthogs, zebras and rhinos. This area is for all ages and will be captivating for all.
  • Asia – Take a Maharajah Jungle Trek to see gorgeous tigers, deer, Komodo dragon and exotic birds. A high speed roller coaster will take you on Expedition Everest to show you the Forbidden Mountain home to the Yeti. Venture on the Kali River Rapids when you ride a raft through an Asian rainforest with geysers and waterfalls.
  • Camp Minnie-Mickey – Pre-schoolers and all ages will enjoy this area where all the Disney characters congregate to greet you. You can enjoy the Festival of the Lion King which is an indoor live theatre 30 minute show. Read the rest of this entry »
